ITA 107 a true piece of the contender's history

24/06/2020

Yesterday, as a birthday present, I went to Cuneo, to pick up the first contender built by my father: ITA 107. A special birthday present that I want to hang on the shed wall so that everyone can admire the beauty of this boat. I want to particularly thank Gianfranco Mellano owner of the boat who over the years has been able to maintain it perfectly.

As you can see from the photos, the first contender already has all the elements that characterize our wooden hulls: connecting strip between the cockpit deck and the front deck, plywood fitting around the cockpit, resin filling at the attack of the shoud plates.

Note the "stichis" that kept the slab adhering to the mould of the hull during the resin hardening which was not epox but Aerodux. I was 8 years old at that time and my brother 9 and we were in charge of removing the staples.
